Where the money goes
The Steve Redgrave Fund aims to support and expand its own schools project which has been running in schools in Birmingham, Sandwell, Glasgow and Cardiff over the past couple of years.
The project sees indoor rowing machines (complete with teacher training) granted to schools and is designed to reach children between the ages of 11 and 16 in schools in the UK (including special schools) providing a cross-curricular tool and helping to provide a solution to problems including fitness, obesity, social inclusion, and confidence.
Around 100 school have been funded by the charity so far at a cost of approximately £500,000, and it is expected that the third phase of funding for this scheme will take place in 2008.
In addition, money raised by the Steve Redgrave Fund will be shared with Sport Relief (an initiative of Comic Relief) which harnesses the power and passion of sport to change lives for the better.
