Atlantic Rowing Race: Making Waves arrive in dramatic style
Date: 14 February 2006
Many congratulations to Becky Thorpe and Steph Temperton who completed their incredible journey across the Atlantic last night. The daring duo arrived in Antigua approximately 11pm after 76 days on the water.
Their journey ended in dramatic style when the girls were forced to call upon the Antigua Search and Rescue for help after battling against the elements just a few miles from Antigua. Although Becky and Steph didn't actually cross the race finishing line they have officially rowed the Atlantic - their crossing time will be confirmed in the next few days.
Steve has been charting the progress of the 'Making Waves' team and willing them on as they progressed towards the finish.
"It's an incredible feat." commented Steve. "This challenge is one of the ultimates and Becky and Steph have shown amazing fortitude, determination and guts. I have sent my sincere congratulations to them both - it's really good to see them safe and well on dry land."
