Liverpool 8: The Final Preparations
Date: 16 June 2006
It has been a very busy few weeks for the Liverpool 8 rowers in the lead up to the day of reckoning.
The Metropolitan Regatta, held at Dorney on 3/4th June, saw the team compete in the Senior 3 8s. Up against top competition in a tough heat, the novices faced four of the six fastest crews as they battled to make third place. It was a strong performance that proved to be enough to reach the repechage. Having already beaten the opposition in the heats, confidence was high but it was not to be as the London Rowing Club rowed to victory.
Sunday saw the team in a much better draw but, unfortunately, the same could not be said for their performance. Failing to make the repechage, the team were disappointed but couldn't afford to let their heads drop as they had to get back to work in preparation for the Marlow Regatta on 17th June.
Tomorrow, again at Dorney, the team will compete in the Senior 4 8s. The Senior 3s had a massive entry this year so the decision was made to go into the 4s to allow the team a good chance of reaching the finals. If successful, the team will have the chance of comparing their best times with the teams that are expected to feature at the Henley qualifiers. An event that is just one week away... so watch this space.
