Sir Steve Redgrave CBE has been appointed as a high profile ambassador to the overall mission and objectives of the myplace scheme. myplace is a £272m government funded scheme, aimed at providing world class youth facilities across England over the next 2 years.
Grants of between £1 - 5m will be awarded to local authorities whose bids meet the criteria; the important element being that the facilities are driven by the active participation of young people, their views and needs. In total, 62 projects have already received funding.
The scheme is being funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and delivered by BIG (the non-lottery funding operation of the BIG Lottery Fund), who have appointed the myplace support team to help organisations develop and submit high quality bids for the programme, as well as provide on-going support to ensure the projects are a success.
Within this ambassadorial role, Sir Steve is involved in the launch events of new myplace projects, press/media activities surrounding these and additionally performs community group visits and speeches to local communities to help raise awareness of the myplace project and maximise its potential to the community.
